National Youth Week

National Youth Week (NYW) is a time to celebrate and recognise the value of all young Australians to their communities. NYW is the largest celebration of young people on the Australian youth calendar.

NYW 2016 will be held from Friday 8 April to Sunday 17 April 2016. 

The aims of NYW are to:

• give young people aged 12-25 an opportunity to express their ideas and views, raise issues of concern to them, act on issues that affect their lives and create and enjoy entertainment and events;
• give the wider community the opportunity to listen to young people, and acknowledge and celebrate the positive contributions and achievements made by young people; and
• promote a community focus on issues of concern to young people.

Following the Future - National Youth Week 2016

Following the Future is the theme for National Youth Week to be held 8 April to 17 April 2016.

Young people from Tasmania’s southern rural and regional communities considered the following things when creating Following the Future as the theme:

• the importance of following your dreams at this age;
• the importance of following your own path to success; and
• how important young people are to the future of the state.

Promoting your NYW event

If you would like to host your own event for National Youth Week 2016 (NYW) we encourage you to add it to the calendar and download our resources below. 

If you use these NYW branded materials we request that you ensure that the event is consistent with the following aims of NYW:

• Provides a safe and supportive environment for young people
• Raises awareness of positive youth stories/experiences
• Demonstrates inclusiveness and the diversity of young people in your area
• Encourages the positive participation of all young people and promotes community connections.

Grant Program 2016

In partnership with the Australian Government, the Tasmanian Government is again providing National Youth Week Grants of up to $2,000 to fund events that celebrate and recognise the contribution of young Tasmanians to their community. The NYW 2016 Grants Program closed on 26 February 2016.
