Premier's Reading Challenge

10 June to 18 August 2014

Parents

Welcome to the 2014 Premier's Reading Challenge

By encouraging children to read, the challenge aims to:

  • Inspire children and young people to love books and reading
  • Raise community awareness about how important reading is as a life skill
  • Encourage families and parents to read with their children every day

You can play a big role in your child's reading development:

  • Read with your child every day
  • Encourage reading at home and school
  • Talk about books with your child
  • Make reading a family affair
  • Join your local LINC or library where you can borrow a great range of books for free

You can support your school:

  • Help to coordinate the Challenge
  • Volunteer to listen to students read

Your past support has made sure that previous Challenges have been very successful.  It would be fantastic to see all Tasmanian children from prep to grade 6 participating in this wonderful Tasmania-wide reading event.

In 2014, the Premier's Reading Challenge runs from 10 June to 18 August.  All students from prep to grade 6 are being challenged to read ten books in those ten weeks.

Every student who completes the challenge will:

  • Enter the draw to win a $100 book voucher - there are three to win
  • Receive a special 2014 Premier's Reading Challenge certificate

There are also fun prizes for them to collect along the way.

Reading with your child is lots of fun and very rewarding.  The Challenge gives you and your child the chance to explore books and reading together.
