Federal Member for Lyons
Eric Hutchinson is a born and bred Northern Tasmanian who grew up and went to school in Launceston. He is the son of Launceston GP and veteran Tasmanian bushwalker David Hutchinson. His mother Mary is a sixth generation Tasmanian.
Eric was a student at Launceston Church Grammar School before undertaking a three-year wool and fibre marketing course at The Gordon (college) at Geelong, near Melbourne. He worked as an exporter and trader for the Japanese trading company Nissho Iawi (Aust) Ltd which took him around Australia and overseas for 14 years.
On returning to Tasmania in 1997 until his election to Parliament, Eric worked throughout Lyons in his role as marketing manager for wool with Roberts Limited, a division of Ruralco Holdings.
He was elected as the federal member for Lyons on September 7 taking the seat from 20-year incumbent Dick Adams with a 13.5 per cent swing. Eric’s wife Amanda is a small business owner operator. They have two sons, Dave, aged 14 and John, aged 11.
