The Hon. Paul Harriss MLC

Independent Member for Huon, Candidate for Franklin

Paul trained as a draftsman at the Hydro between  1971-76, then moved to the private sector and continued his drafting career with a Hobart architectural firm, before returning to the Hydro.

In 1981 Paul had a career change, moving to the Local Government Office as a Building Advisory Officer, a role that involved advising council building surveyors in the administration of the building regulations.

After six years at the Local Government Office, Paul became a founding Director of Huon Building Design and Engineering then in 1988 appointed State Manager of the Housing Industry Association.

In 1996, Paul was  elected to the Legislative Council as the Member for Huon, a position he has held to the present day.

Paul’s other business and community involvement:

  • developing and owning the Huon Indoor Cricket centre from 1984 to 1988
  • Board member, Huon Cricket Association
  • President, Southern Football League
  • Chairman, Huon Channel Cricket Association (current)
  • President Huon Valley PCYC (current)
  • Patron Huon Valley Theatre Company (current)
  • Elected to the Huon Council in 1982 and retired from local government in 1996.
