Latest News from the Tasmanian Liberals
The Liberals’ Plan for TT Line will deliver more tourists and cheaper fares.
We anticipate our Plan will result in the average fare being reduced by up to 20 percent, and up to an extra 120,000 visitors coming to Tasmania.
A majority Liberal government will act to make travel on the Spirit of Tasmania cheaper and more attractive to tourists by altering the Members’ Letter of Expectation.
Today I released our First 100 Days Implementation Plan, should we be elected to govern on March 15.
This election is the most important election in a generation.
Tasmanians have a clear choice at this election: a choice to change the direction our State is heading in, a choice for a brighter future – or more of the same.
We can’t fix the challenges our State faces overnight, which is why we have released a comprehensive Plan for Tasmania’s future.
The Liberals’ long-term plan is unashamedly all about job creation. We have set a goal of reducing unemployment in Tasmania to the national average within our first term, we have the Job Creation Package to back that up and the team to deliver it.
Today I have announced that a majority Liberal Government will invest $12 million in important regional infrastructure to grow jobs in our regional and rural communities.
Labor and the Greens are hoping Tasmanians will forget that they only ever put their school closures agenda on hold until after the 2014 state election.
The fact is nearly two years ago the Labor-Green government confirmed that they had accepted “in full” a recommendation that every Tasmanian school must have a set minimum number of students in order to stay open.*
International ratings agency Moody’s has down rated Tasmania’s AA1 economic rating from stable to negative.
In 2012 Moody’s cut our rating from AAA to Aa1 and has now sent a signal to the markets that the quality of Tasmania’s credit is deteriorating.
The report noted:
“The negative outlook reflects an ongoing deterioration in Tasmania's financial performance, including persistent deficits, which are expected to continue widening as expenditures outpace revenues in the context of weaker economic conditions in the state.”
A majority Liberal Government will invest an extra $250,000 each year in the PCYC Network in Tasmania so that they can continue to support and educate our youth to reduce crime and repeat offending.
We will work with the PCYC Network of Tasmania in the administration of this additional funding. Individual clubs from around the State will be able to apply for funding from a central pool to upgrade equipment, facilities or for operational assistance, allowing them to build on the valuable work that they have been undertaking in Tasmania since 1946.
Lara Giddings must come clean on her secret savings at this afternoon's debate.
Two days ago (25 February) Lara Giddings claimed Labor would announce some savings - "In fact we will have some savings to be able to announce as well."
Lara Giddings must use today's debate to reveal where she will cut.
In the next four years Tasmania is facing Budget deficits of $903 million. They must be addressed and Ms Giddings needs to say how she will do so.
