SPORTS PERFORMANCE UNIT

The TIS has a nationally accredited Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) and mobile testing van which allows the unit to conduct a wide range of tests at different venues around the state. Testing is conducted in the HPL or in the athlete's normal training environment.

Sports Performance services should be requested by the coach and directed to the Manager of Sports Performance. Testing will not be conducted without prior consultation with the athlete's coach.

COUNSELLING SERVICES

Relationships Australia, in conjunction with the TIS, offers TIS athletes their families and coaches access to counselling services provided by Relationships Australia.

Relationships Australia staff can provide support and professional guidance for a broad range of personal, sport related and family issues including: close relationships, emotional stress, health problems, grief or depression, coping with success and coping with non-selection.

Confidentiality is assured at all times. Cost for a set number of consultations will be covered by the TIS.

RESOURCE ROOM

The Tasmanian Institute of Sport houses a resource room which is available to athletes and the public between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday. The Resource Room contains journals, magazines, books, videos and pamphlets on many aspects of sport and recreation.

To borrow a book, you are required to fill out a loan form, ask for assistance at reception if necessary. Journals and magazines cannot be removed from the facility.

A computer is available in the resource room, which athletes are able to use for internet connection and for any other study/work needs. Photocopying facilities are also available.

The TIS Librarian, Katina Rokas, is available on Mondays from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
