NATIONAL TALENT ID PROGRAMS (NTID)

The TIS currently supports two NTID programs.  NTID Cycling, headed by TIS Cycling Coach Ron Bryan and NTID Rowing, coordinated by the Rowing High Performance Development Coordinator.

CYCLING AUSTRALIA'S (CA) TASMANIAN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

If you are interested in trying out for the Cycling Talent Identification squad please email Alanna Martin.

CA's Tasmanian Development Program is run in conjunction with the Tasmanian Institute of Sport is a program to identify and develop talented Tasmanian sportspeople to prepare them for state, national and eventually international competition.  The program will be run by the TIS Cycling Coach, Ron Bryan, with David Walker assisting in the North West region and Michael Thorne assisting in the Southern region.

The program provides athletes with expert coaching, sport science monitoring, training camps, and national and international competition experience for accelerated skill development. The program is being coordinated in three regions in Tasmania – North West, North, and the South.

Athletes in the program aim to progress onto scholarship with the TIS Cycling program by meeting the appropriate selection criteria. Ultimately, our long term aim is to uncover potential Olympic champions.

TALENT ID IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM

Various versions of the schools' Talent Search program has been running in Tasmania for 15 years.  We have had some success in identifying talented individuals in the sports of rowing, cycling, athletics, orienteering, basketball, hockey, netball and kayaking.

Following recent review, the Tasmanian Institute of Sport will be temporarily suspending the Schools Talent ID Program.  However this is not the end for Talent ID programs in Tasmania!  We are working towards new initiatives to uncover talented students in your area.  More information regarding these new projects will be posted as they develop.
