SES Volunteer Training

Unit Level

Training for volunteers begins in the Unit where trained, experienced members undertake the initial induction and general rescue training.  Support for this training is provided by the Regional Staff as required.

Regional Level

Tasmania has 3 regions with a dedicated training officer in each region. Other regional staff can also have trainer and assessor qualifications.  The Regional Staff have the responsibility of providing support and guidance to the units.  In addition they may coordinate centralised training weekends, where members from a number of units within the region or across regions undertake specific training together.

State Level

The Learning and Development section is based at the SES State Headquarters in Hobart.  This section is responsible for the development of curriculum, assessment design, training research, workplace Trainer and Assessor training, and staff training and development.
