On 29 June 2010 the then Tasmanian Attorney-General Hon Lara Giddings announced the appointment of the members of the newly-formed Sentencing Advisory Council.
The appointments were chosen to represent a unique and balanced perspective on the sentencing process. The Council includes a chairperson, two community members and nominees from the legal profession, the Commissioner of Police, the Director of Public Prosecutions, the University of Tasmania and the Legal Aid Commission.
Tasmania is the third State after NSW and Victoria to establish a Sentencing Advisory Council.
