Bioenergy talk now on YouTube

Forestry Tasmania’s management of the State’s Permanent Timber Production forests carries with it a responsibility to continue to develop and apply the best available science in our operations and to make research information available to others.

Our education and information programs include putting on a regular series of Forestry Talks to share scientific and research findings, and joining with industry to support the Forest Education Foundation.

Our Forestry Talks series went international last month when Professor Andreas Rothe of the University of Applied Sciences in Weihenstephan, Germany, delivered an excellent presentation on five months of study comparing the use of forest biomass for energy in Tasmania and Europe.

Professor Rothe’s Forestry Talk provided a major contribution to the public discussion of this issue. Bioenergy will continue to be an important topic as we create more efficient and economically valuable ways to use our forest resources in the wake of the Tasmanian Forest Agreement.

For those who missed it, Professor Rothe’s presentation is now available on YouTube here.

In other news, the Forest Education Foundation recently launched a new website that integrates its online presence with the educational experiences on offer at the National Forest Learning Centre.

The website now provides comprehensive information for teachers looking to get involved with one of the FEF’s interactive activities, with information about how its programs link to the new Australian Curriculum, in-field and in-classroom experiences, and sample programs.

It’s also a great resource for anyone just wanting more information about how our forests are managed – and how our wood products are used.

You can see for yourself at www.forest-education.com

Until next time,
Steve Whiteley
Acting Chief Executive Officer
