Tasmanian Social Enterprise Study Baseline Study Report

The Tasmanian Social Enterprise Study Baseline Study Report was released by the Minister for Economic Development on Wednesday 18 May 2011 at the Long Gallery, Salamanca, Hobart.

The report is a result of collaboration between the Departments of Premier and Cabinet; Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts; and the Institute for Regional Development, University of Tasmania.

Social enterprises are organisations that exist for a social or environmental purpose, funding their operations through traditional business methods - the trading of products and services. Such organisations are recognised as important for building social and economic participation, and were advised as an area for potential Government investment in A Social Inclusion Strategy for Tasmania.

The study is the first of its kind in Australia, researching Tasmanian social enterprises, their business and social objectives, beneficiaries, industry sector and barriers and opportunities for growth.
