Collaboration between the State Government and local government

The State Government and local government currently enjoy a strong, open and productive working relationship. Cooperation at the political and officer levels is normal business. There are good networks, there is good will and there are good outcomes as a result.

In December 2011, the Premier's Local Government Council endorsed the State Government's Framework for Collaboration with Local Government which can be downloaded here. The framework was developed to guide collaboration on high-level strategic issues at the statewide level, through to day-to-day issues at the local level.

As outlined in the framework, collaboration between the State Government and local government is supported by:

  • the Premier's Local Government Council;
  • the statewide partnership agreement on communication and consultation;
  • partnership agreements;
  • relationship management at the local level; and
  • memoranda of understanding.
