Facing the Future - A Baseline Profile on Older Tasmanians

Facing the Future – A Baseline Profile on Older Tasmanians (the Profile) provides valuable insights into the characteristics of our older Tasmanian population, aged 60+ years. The purpose of the Profile is to increase the Tasmanian Government's evidence base and its capacity to support a more inclusive society for people of all ages.

The majority of the data has been sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS); the Census of Population and Housing 2011 was used extensively. Data sourced from the Department of Health and Human Services 2009 Tasmanian Population Health Survey was also used.

The Profile is the culmination of the first project contained in the Inclusive Ageing: Tasmania 2012-2014 Strategy. The Strategy outlines the approach the Government is taking in progressing policy in relation to older people and the six projects that are being undertaken during the three year period.

COTA Tas received funding in the 2012-13 State Budget to support the implementation of the Strategy and undertook the data sourcing, collation, analysis and commentary for the Profile.
