The Tasmanian Government has released an update on progress in implementing relevant recommendations from the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission (VBRC).
The Update provides information on the current status of each of the 67 recommendations of the VBRC and highlights key achievements including the development of Community Protection Plans.
When the VBRC delivered its recommendations, the Tasmanian Government allocated $2 million to the Tasmania Fire Service over three years to develop community protection plans. To date, local plans have been prepared for 53 at-risk communities.
Other highlights include the referral of appropriate standards for construction in bushfire prone areas to the Tasmanian Planning Commission for assessment and the development of a new telephone-based warning system, Emergency Alert.
