Disability access and inclusion in DPAC

The Disability Framework for Action 2013-17 (DFA) sets out the Government’s vision of Tasmania as an inclusive and caring community. It provides a whole-of-government approach to addressing the needs of people with disability in the design and delivery of all government policies, programs, services and facilities.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPAC) is committed to achieving this vision and launched the DPAC Disability Action Plan 2008-10 on the International Day of Disabled Persons on 3 December 2008.

A revised disability access and inclusion plan is currently being finalised. While the plan is being finalised, there are a number of areas in which we are making improvements: These include:

  • running a disability graduate program across government
  • supporting and leading across Government the Willing and Able Mentoring (WAM) program - a partnership between DPAC and the University of Tasmania. The program matches third and fourth-year university students with a disability with a staff member, where possible in a manager/supervisor level role, in a State Government agency in the student’s area of career interest.
  • offering and supporting work placements for people with a disability
  • improved accessibility of a number of offices, including door width compliance and wheelchair accessible reception desk
  • continuing to lead whole-of-government improvements in web accessibility, including working with Vision Australia to deliver web accessibility training to all State Government agencies
  • reviewed whole-of-government communication templates to ensure web accessibility and to ensure that electronic documents meet accessibility standards.
