Legal Deposit

All publishers in Tasmania have to deposit copies of their publications with the State Library of Tasmania (as part of LINC Tasmania) and the National Library of Australia to comply with the Libraries Act 1984.

Making a request

Requests for permission should be made via our online form .

Requirement for permission

The requirement for permission to publish is based on ownership and ensures that:

  • the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office receives due acknowledgement and promotion for use of material from its collection
  • material is cited so that it can be found by other researchers
  • any special donor’s conditions are adhered to.

Fees and charges

Fees are charged for the use of film from the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office collection. There are no fees for the use of other Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office material.

Obtaining high quality images for publication

You can order high-quality images, audio and video of heritage and archive material from our collections for publication or broadcast.


General copyright

Access to most of LINC Tasmania's library collection is for personal use only and we do not hold copyright in the majority of our lending and general reference collection materials.  If you want to publish or broadcast these items you need to contact the copyright owner.
