A range of services are available to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of children, their families and carers.

Services are provided through Area Teams based in the North, North West, South East and South West of the State, and through community sector organisations.

Child Health and Parenting Services

Child Health & Parenting Service (CHAPS) provides:-

  • Child health, growth and developmental assessments;

  • Parent support and information; and

  • Early intervention services.

CHAPS works in partnership with local communities through schools, neighbourhood houses and local organisations.

Child and Family Health Nurses deliver a wide range of programs.

Child Protection Services

Under the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997, Child Protection Services have the statutory responsibility for intervening where children are at risk of abuse and neglect.

Child Protection activities include intake, assessment, case management and out of home care services.

Family Violence Counselling and Support Services

Family Violence Counselling and Support Service (FVCSS) offer professional and specialised services to assist children, young people and adults affected by family violence.

The FVCSS Children and Young Peoples Program (CHYPP) provides therapeutic parent/child sessions (parents, and children 0 to 5 years), one to one counselling (children aged 5 to 17 years) and group sessions for parents and children (5+ yrs old).

The FVCSS Adult Program provides information, referral, support, counselling, advocacy and practical assistance to adults affected by family violence.

Sexual Assault Support Services

DCYFS works with community sector organisations to provide support, counselling and information to women, men and children who have been sexually assaulted at any time in their lives.
