Welcome to Adoptions and Permanency Services. We provide services to a variety of Tasmanians including:

  • those who are considering placing their child for adoption
  • those who wish to adopt a child
  • those subject to past adoptions and
  • those who were once in state care.

Former Forced Adoption Practices in Tasmania

Premier Lara Giddings MP has delivered a formal apology on behalf of the Tasmanian community to mothers and fathers whose children were removed because of past forced adoption practices, and to people who were separated from their parents as infants as a result of those practices.

The apology was delivered in the Tasmanian Parliament on Thursday 18 October 2012.

National Apology

On 23 June 2012 the Attorney-General announced the Australian Government's intention to issue a national apology to those affected by forced adoption practices.

The National Apology will take place on Thursday 21 March 2013 in Canberra.

Limited assistance has been made available by the Federal Government for individuals from interstate who wish to attend the national apology event in person.
