In Tasmania, our population is the oldest of all states and territories, and is also ageing at the fastest rate. As of 2012, Tasmania has the largest proportional share of people aged 65 years and over. In addition, the number of people aged 85 years and over is growing rapidly. Greater life expectancy is good reason for celebration.
Older people are a valuable asset to our community and play a vital role contributing in a diversity of ways. All older people should have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of community.
The Principal Liaison Officer - Older Persons coordinates and supports the division's priorities in relation to older Tasmanians and may be contacted by emailing olderpersons@dpac.tas.gov.au or phoning (03) 6232 7201.
