As the owner and operator of the electricity transmission system in Tasmania, it's our job to transport extra-high voltage electricity from power stations to substations around the State.
Our transmission system is connected to the national electricity grid via Basslink, an undersea cable that links the Tasmanian power system to the national grid on mainland Australia. We’re registered with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and we operate in Australia’s national electricity market (NEM).
We also provide specialist communications services to other members of the Tasmanian electricity supply industry (TESI) and to other external customers.
Transend is owned by the State of Tasmania. While our head office is located in Hobart, we do have dedicated people working in offices at Launceston and Sheffield to ensure that as far as possible the transmission system is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Our mission is transmission: safe, reliable and efficient electricity and telecommunications services.
