Local History walk starting Franklin Square, completing Princes Park
150_history.jpg

Why Hobart is called 'Hobart'?

Franklin Square is our starting point for our exploration of Hobart's early days.  We explore the colony's first cemetery; see where prisoners were sent to the gallows, and where soldiers guarded the city against a Russian invasion (that never happened!)  We visit Princes Park, where we go underground to see the hidden gunpowder store. Join Brendan Lennard, Council Senior Cultural Heritage Officer on this exciting morning of discovery.

Where: Meet by the chess board in Franklin Square Hobart (the event will be cancelled if raining
