Payment of Rates and Charges 2013/14

The rates and charges for the 2013/14 financial year have now been adopted and you should receive your demand in the mail approximately 2nd week of August 2013.  If you have not received your notice by this date, please contact the Oatlands Office.

2013/2014 Rates & Charges Rates Resolution

The rates and charges are payable by four equal instalments with the amount of any arrears from previous years being added to and payable with the first instalment.


  • First instalment: 30 days from date of issue
  • Second instalment: Friday 29th November 2013
  • Third instalment: Friday 31st January 2014
  • Fourth instalment: Monday 31st March 2014

Mailing Your Payment

Please detach the payment slip from your rate notice and return it together with your cheque or money order. When remitting payments please make cheques or money orders payable to the Southern Midlands Council and marked “not negotiable”.

Paying in Person

Rates and Charges may be paid at either of the Municipal Offices situated at 71 High Street, Oatlands and 85 Main Street, Kempton or any Australia Post Office between 9.00 am and 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.

Payment by Phone

Phone payments can be accepted for holders of VISA, Mastercard or Bankcard by calling 1300 729 859. Note: please have your Notice of Rates and Charges with you when paying by phone. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Payment by Internet

Pay your rates and charges via credit card. You will require your Biller Code reference number which is located on your rates notice.

MasterCard Visa

Payment by Direct Debit from bank account

Direct Debit payments can be arranged by contacting the Oatlands Office, or by down loading and completing the Direct Debit Authority Form and returning to the Oatlands Office of the Southern Midlands Council.


Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment, simply call Centrelink or download Centrepay Deduction Form  or alternatively by contacting the Southern Midlands Council to request a Centrepay deductions form.

BPay - Telephone and Internet Banking

Call your bank, credit union or building society to make this payment from your cheque, or saving account. Biller code reference number is located on the Rates notice. More info


Late Payments

A penalty of 5% applies to any rate or charge that is not paid on or before the date it falls due.

In addition to the penalty, interest under section 128 of the Local Government Act 1993 will be charged at the rate of 9.5% per annum, calculated monthly.
