Veterans' Affairs

Veterans' Affairs

The Tasmanian Government deeply values the sacrifices that our service men and women made in armed conflicts defending our nation and our way of life.  We also recognise the hard work that they continue to do for their fellows, for their communities and for the Tasmanian people.

Veterans and their organisations are an important part of Tasmania’s social fabric.  By supporting and advocating for the wellbeing of their members, they help ensure that Tasmania remains a kinder and more inclusive society.
The Bartlett Labor Government demonstrated the value it places on the veterans’ community by establishing the new State portfolio of Veteran Affairs in 2009.  Together with the TVAC, the portfolio establishes a formal dialogue between the veterans’ community and the State Government.  It enables the government to listen to the concerns of the veterans’ community and to promote their health and well-being.

The Tasmanian Veterans’ Advisory Council (TVAC) was established through this portfolio.  The TVAC provides advice to the government on veterans’ issues, creates stronger links between veterans’ organisations and provides advice on commemorating our military legacy. It also works across government to assist veterans’ access to government services such as health, housing and concessions.

The Tasmanian Government will work closely with the veterans’ community so that we can respond to their changing needs and ensure that Tasmania’s military legacy continues to be honoured.
