Arts

Tasmania is unique, innovative and creative. We have more artists and arts workers per capita than other Australian states and territories. There is something about Tasmania - its island status, the beauty of the environment, the isolation - that seems to nurture creativity.

The arts and cultural sector is a key part of Tasmania's competitive advantage in driving innovation and attracting people to live, work, study, invest and visit our wonderful State, making Tasmania a prime example of a thriving creative economy.

The Tasmanian Government supports the arts through grants to individuals and organisations across the spectrum of dance, music, theatre, and writing; we support the development of the State's screen industry and the conservation of our cultural heritage through museums and art galleries.

The rollout of the National Broadband Network and the rapidly developing digital economy provide new opportunities for the arts, culture and creative industries, developing artistic practice, new income streams, commercialisation opportunities, and business models. The Tasmanian Government is investing in the Digital Development Strategy, delivered through Arts Tasmania, to help position our arts and creative industries to take our stories to the world in exciting new ways into the future.
