Nick McKim

Nick McKim

Nick McKim was born in London and moved to Tasmania with his family when he was five.  He grew up in Blackmans Bay in the electorate of Franklin, which he has represented in the Tasmanian House of Assembly since 2002.

Prior to his election to Parliament, Nick worked in public relations, and as a wilderness guide, mining prospector and in the agriculture sector.

Nick decided to run for Parliament for the Greens due to his belief in intergenerational equity and his conviction that a healthy environment underpins the health of our community, and our economy.

Nick became Leader of the Tasmanian Greens in 2008. Nick is passionate about the opportunities that exist for Tasmania through the unique combination of our incomparable natural assets, the deeply held environmental awareness of our community, the historical foundation of our economy, and the skills, talents and tolerance of our people.

Nick is honoured to be the first Greens Minister in Australia.

“This is a historic moment for the Greens.  We take our new level of responsibility extremely seriously, and will work hard every day to meet the challenge.”

“We now have a great opportunity to show how co-operative politics can work, and deliver the stability and good governance Tasmanians deserve. I am ready to take up this challenge.”
