Climate Change

Climate Change

The Tasmanian Government has set up the Tasmanian Climate Change Office to manage the Tasmanian Government’s response to climate change.

The Tasmanian Government is leading the way in being the first in the country to undertake whole-of-government emissions audit, an inventory of government operations and buildings is currently been undertaken by consultants Parsons Brinckerhoff.  Workshops have taken place to educate government employees on ways they can reduce their workplaces carbon footprint.  The Government has changed its vehicle fleet to be more climate friendly.  Government departments have been looking at alternatives to travel such as video-conferencing technology and setting aside funding to offset greenhouse gas emissions from all air travel.  The Government has reviewed its procurement policies and climate change considerations are now incorporated into all major purchasing decisions.

All government agencies must now detail their greenhouse emissions reduction progress in their annual reports.

The Tasmanian Climate Change office is committed to the continual development of initiatives to help educate the wider Tasmania community on what they can do to help combat climate change.
