North East Freight Roads Project
Background
The North-East Freight Roads Projects are designed to improve safety for all road users and help manage a growing freight task in North-East Tasmania.
Successful completion of the replacement $1.3 million Tebrakunna Bridge over the Ringarooma River near Pioneeer, in March 2010, was the first project to be delivered under the program.
Detailed planning investigations for the remaining projects commenced in July 2010 and are continuing.
Project Benefits
The North East Freight Roads program will deliver the following benefits:
- Improved safety for all road users;
- Improved consistency of road geometry;
- Improved transport efficiency for the freight industry; and
- Employment for Tasmanian road contractors.
Project Funding
The Australian Government has committed $34 million and the Tasmanian Government $8.5 million, bringing the total project cost to $42.5 million.

Bridport Main Road Upgrades |
Widening, junction improvements and some curve improvements and pavement strengthening. Bus bays and safety fencing. |
