Client Update Service Project

The Client Update Service (CUS) is a proposed new client-initiated service to be offered through Service Tasmania to enable individuals to update their personal information. Under the new service, clients will be able to update details such as their name, address and telephone contact details, as currently held by the Tasmanian Government business units of which they are clients. The service will incorporate an address validation process to ensure that the address information held by agencies will be correct and consistent. The project business plan was endorsed by the Client Update Service Project Steering Committee on 4 May 2007.

The Client Update Service is being developed as a joint Tasmanian and Victorian Government initiative and builds on the Victorian Mapping and Address Service (VMAS). This is a service that allows for a real-time validation of address information against the Geo-coded National Address File (GNAF) and the Australia Post Postal Address File (PAF).

It is expected that the first phase of the Client Update Service Project will be completed by November 2010.

The objectives of the Client Update Service Project are:

  • to make it easier for existing clients of Tasmanian Government inner-budget agencies to notify changes to their personal information/details, and
  • to complement other Tasmanian Government initiatives aimed at improving client service delivery practices with a particular focus on the quality of client personal information and authentication.

The outputs of the Client Update service will be:

  • A facility (involving people, processes, business rules and technology) for coordinating changes to personal details across government;
  • A facility (involving people, processes, business rules and technology) for linking to data quality initiatives, particularly an address validation service;
  • Ongoing operational models for the Client Update Service; and
  • Recommendations for the ongoing and future functionality of the Client Update Service.
