Transport seeks to provide a transport system for Tasmania that is safe, recognises the needs of the community and helps to enhance economic development.
Transport is made up of three core areas:

Strategic Policy and PlanningPrimarily concerned with assessing transport demand, and developing strategies for land, air and sea transport as well as for passenger transport.

Land Transport SafetyPrimarily concerned with driver safety, vehicle safety and road safety.

Roads and Public TransportPrimarily concerned with roads, bridges, passenger transport services and freight transport services.
The three core areas work closely together to meet the expectations of the Tasmanian community.

To achieve these outcomes the Transport strives to:

Ensure that safety standards for road users and vehicles are applied and monitored;

Continually educate children and other members of the community in the basics of road safety; and

Consult with industry and transport users to ensure that the transport system contributes positively to the Tasmanian lifestyle. Roads and bridges are designed and erected to high standards and traffic flow is optimised. |
