Murchison Highway

These upgrades consist of safety improvements to areas of the Murchison Highway between Rosebery and Cradle Mountain Link Road (Belvoir Rd). The upgrades are being undertaken in two sections.

  • Rosebery to Sterling River (Mt Black); and safety upgrades south of Farm Creek Bridge
  • Anthony Main Road to Cradle Mountain Link Road


Funding of $21 million will be provided by the State Government as part of the 2010 election commitment to upgrade the Murchison Highway under the West Coast Roads Program. 

Works commencing early 2013:

Rosebery to Sterling River over Mount Black

The improvements to this part of Murchison Highway consist of:

  • embankment stabilisation and safety improvements
  • two slow vehicle turnouts southbound
  • one slow vehicle turnout northbound
  • a southbound pullover bay
  • a nature trail car park at the crest of the pass

Safety upgrades to a section of the highway between south of Farm Creek Bridge and a location approximately 6 kilometres north of Tullah, including:

  • carriageway widening
  • improved road geometry 
  • installation of a safety barrier 
  • improved sight distance

These upgrades are aimed at improving the overall safety of the highway for all users.

The concept designs for the above upgrades are being displayed from Friday 23rd November 2012 till Friday 7th December on notice boards at the West Coast Council Offices, and the following post offices: Queenstown; Tullah; Rosebery; Strahan and Zeehan.
