2013 Grants Program Recipients Announced

The Minister for Tourism, Scott Bacon MP announced, on 4 October 2012, the 48 Tasmanian events will receive over $188 000 in project grants through Events Tasmania’s 2013 Grants Program.

The grants will assist event organisers to carry out development projects for events at locations around Tasmania throughout the 2013 calendar year.

“Events Tasmania’s grant program supports private businesses, clubs, associations and community groups to deliver quality events across the state and have the potential to draw significant numbers of visitors to the state,” Mr Bacon said.

“The wide range of events held in Tasmania play a significant role in the vibrancy, liveability and diversity of our state” Mr Bacon said.

“It is estimated that the events that will be staged by this year’s grant recipients have the potential to draw around 28 000 visitors to Tasmania, which has a significant flow-on effect to the local economy.”

This year’s grants have been awarded in two categories: New Event Ideas which provide seed funding to establish new or innovative events; and Small Event Projects, which provide assistance to undertake specific projects to improve existing events.

Eight events share a total of just over $71 000 in New Event Ideas grants, to deliver exceptional event projects which either substantially evolve the operations of their existing events or help them to establish a new and innovative event product to be delivered in Tasmania.

In addition, 40 festivals, regional events, community events, cultural events, championships, and motor and cycle touring events share in a pool of over $117 000 in Small Event Project grants.

Mr Bacon said the grants of up to $3 000 will help organisers to deliver a project which will improve their event operations, and to support the development and resilience of their events.

“The commitment and ingenuity of the groups who stage events in our Tasmanian communities – many of which are volunteer-run – is highlighted by the diversity of projects that have been successful in this grant round,” Mr Bacon said.

“I congratulate all the recipients of this year’s grants and look forward with anticipation to seeing the successful events bring benefits and generate visitation throughout Tasmania,” Mr Bacon said.

The Events Tasmania Grants Program was established in 2002, and since that time has given over 900 grants to event organisers in Tasmania. A full list of the grant recipients is here.
