BOFA 2012 achieved a 70% increase in audiences from the 2011 event despite a decrease in the number of screenings by 25% over the same period.

One of the highlights of this year’s festival was the BOFA Big Picture Debate on the topic ‘Social Media does more harm than good’.  Simon Longstaff, Executive Director of the St James Ethics Centre led the debate in the style of a Geoffrey Robertson Hypothetical. Panellists included Lynden Barber together with the following other guests:

  • Catherine Deveny, high profile comedian, author and broadcaster, who recently appeared on the SBS program, Go Back to Where You Came From and who is a well-known user of social media
  • Karen Pickering, creator/editor of feminist salon and magazine Cherchez la Femme
  • Paul Oosting, campaigns manager of social activism group GetUp!
