The Straits - online component (on air)

The Straits is an exotic, darkly humorous crime drama. It follows the fortunes of a family whose members happen to be on the wrong side of the law. Their turf is Far North Queensland and the complex network of islands that form Australia’s northern frontier, the Torres Strait.

Screen Tasmania’s involvement in the project is in the online elements of the series, which are being undertaken by Electric Yak (a subsidiary of Blue Rocket Productions).

This series comes from Matchbox Pictures and Pixa House Ltd, a company set up by Helen Panckhurst, Penny Chapman, Aaron Fa’aoso and Charles Passi following their work together on the mini-series RAN: Remote Area Nurse.

Goddess (in post-production)

Elspeth Dickens dreams of finding her ‘voice’ despite being stuck on an isolated farmhouse in Tasmania with her twin toddlers, Timmy and Tammy (the Tim Tams). A webcam becomes her pathway to fame and fortune, but at a price. She realises that the very people she has been blaming for turning her into a nobody are the ones that have turned her into a somebody.

Screen Tasmania has previously provided development funding to this project and is now a minor equity partner with Screen Australia, Screen NSW and Wildheart Films and private investors.

Goddess will be directed by Mark Lamprell and produced by Richard Keddie and Andrena Finlay.

The Hunter (in release)

The Hunter, starring Willem Dafoe (The English Patient, Spiderman) finished shooting in Tasmania late 2010.

The film is being co-financed by Screen Australia, Screen New South Wales and Screen Tasmania with Madman and E1 Entertainment as distributors.

The Hunter is produced by Vincent Sheehan (Animal Kingdon, Little Fish), directed by Daniel Nettheim (All Saints, The Secret Life of Us) and written by Alice Addison.
