Planning your visit

Opening hours

Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery is open 10:00 am – 5:00 pm every day (except Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day.)

Tours

Our volunteer guides provide a range of guided tours of the Museum from Wednesday to Sunday starting at 2.30pm. 

Cloaking

Bags, other than handbags, are not permitted in the galleries. Cloaking facilities are available off the entry foyer for a refundable fee of $2.

Disability access

Lift access is available to all galleries. Wheelchairs are available from the information desk. Booking a wheelchair in advance of your visit is advised. To do so, phone (03) 6211 4134. Guide dogs are welcome in the gallery spaces and to all TMAG events.

Filming and photography

For legal and cultural reasons, filming and photography are not permitted in some areas.

Please check with our gallery assistants if you are unsure about whether you are able to use your camera. For conservation and the comfort of others, please do not use flash photography.

Food and drink

Food and drink are not permitted in the galleries.

Smoking

TMAG is a strictly non-smoking building.

Mobile phones

We ask patrons with mobile phones to be thoughtful of other visitors.
