The Policy Division plays a central role in Tasmanian Government decision-making by:
- providing impartial advice to the Premier and Cabinet on, for example:

- opportunities and risks facing Tasmania from a social, economic and environmental perspective; and
- all proposals submitted to Cabinet
- leading on issues of high importance to the Premier, especially those that involve a number of Government agencies
- coordinating the Government’s contribution to national issues, for example, those being discussed by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG)
- coordinating the Tasmanian Government’s contribution to the achievement of Tasmania Together goals
- leading the development of Tasmanian Government policies where the policy can best be achieved through the input of several agencies.
