The LGAT supports the development of a consistent and balanced policy and regulatory response to the control of noise in Tasmania.

The LGAT acknowledges that Councils have responsibilities in relation to noise control.

The LGAT considers that any Act, Regulation or Environmental Protection Policy which deals with noise:

  • Needs to define the roles and responsibilities of all agencies involved in dealing with noise issues
  • Must distinguish between environmental management issues and public order issues
  • Should not raise unrealistic expectations in the community as to amenity and the resolution of noise issues.

Further, in the development of any instrument that deals with noise, the resource implications of implementation must be a paramount consideration.
