Governance

Our goals in the governance policy area are to:

  • Take a leadership role in the interface between the Australian and Tasmanian governments and local government on matters of policy, legislation, regulation, roles and functions
  • Advocate for appropriate policy and regulatory reform that supports local governance
  • Ensure the appropriate oversight of legislative amendment impacting on local government and the maintenance of rigorous consultation processes
  • Provide information and advice to elected members and senior council officers on the application of the Local Government Act and other relevant legislation
  • Provide development opportunities for elected members and council officers
  • Maximise awareness within the community of local government's role

Priorities include:

  • Community Engagement
