ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES

With the departure of Council's previous Development Services Manager, the General Manager, Mr David Metcalf has taken on the role of overseeing this Departments function.  He is responsible for the environmental services and subsequent activities of Council which may ultimately affect our environment.

Environmental Services provided by Council include the Natural Resource Management (NRM) function. Council employs a full time NRM Officer, Miss Melanie Kelly, and enquiries regarding any of the important NRM projects being undertaken at present can be directed to Melanie on (03) 6256 5056.

BURNING WASTE

Within the Environmental Management and Pollution Control (Distributed Atmospheric Emmissions) Regulations 2007 it states "...A person must not burn waste or fuel in the open or in an incinerator on land that has an area of less than 2000 square metres, unless the waste or fuel is;

a) unpainted, untreated and uncontaminated wood, or
b) vegetative waste, or
c) paper, and

Is burnt;

1) in accordance with a permit issued under the Fire Service Act 1979, or
2) for the sole or primary purpose of reducing a potential fire hazard

Any burning must not create an environmental nuisance (excessive smoke).
