Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology
I believe it is Innovation that will help Tasmania create sustainable economic, social and environmental benefits for our businesses, our community, and future generations of Tasmanians.
That is why the Government has established a new portfolio in the area of Innovation, Science and Technology. Â
As Minister, my focus is on how to utilise innovation, science and technology to drive economic growth and improve opportunities for all Tasmanians. Â
This budget seeks to provide funding to support the first five critical priority areas to be included in the Governments new Innovation Strategy. Â These areas are high-value agriculture, aquaculture and food, renewable energy, the Digital Futures Strategy, tourism and Tasmania as a creative place to live and work.
We will be building on the initiatives announced in today's Budget as a starting point for a broader approach to economic development.
Tasmania has the opportunity to be a leader in innovation, science, research and creativity. The investments we are making now are an important step towards fulfilling that potential.
