Devonport

On Sunday 14 September 2008, Cabinet travelled to Devonport for the third community forum in as many months.

The Premier spoke to the assembled crowd of Devonport as the home port of the Spirits and a city that has carved a vital role in the Tasmanian tourist industry. The Premier and Ministers met with local residents one-on-one throughout the afternoon about issues and ideas they have for their area.

On Monday 15 September, Cabinet met with the Devonport City Council and participated in community and business visits in the surrounding area.

While in Devonport the Premier highlighted the importance of engaging young children in early learning experiences during a visit to the Imaginarium Science Centre in Devonport. At the Centre, the Premier handed over new equipment for the Early Years Young Explorers’ Area which was funded through the Premier’s Small Grants Program.

The Premier also had the opportunity to present a $10,000 cheque to the Latrobe speedway which has replaced funding no longer available through the Devonport City Council.
