On Sunday 15 February, Cabinet travelled to Geeveston for the sixth in a series of ongoing community forums.

At the forum Premier David Bartlett acknowledged the great community spirit in the Huon area and announced a $2,000 grant to kick off the fundraising efforts for the Huon FM radio station which is run by about 30 locals that volunteer their time and efforts. The grant will go towards upgrading the current building, and fit-out of a new studio closer to town as it expands its listener base through a new transmitter.

The Premier, Deputy Premier and Ministers had a full schedule of appointments. The Premier said meeting with local residents was a great way to hear directly about their issues, ideas and aspirations.

Whilst in the area the Premier also attended the Tahune Bushfire Appeal Family Day. The Premier praised the generosity of Tasmanians and thanked the firefighters, forestry workers and those that had supported the affected Victorian communities with cash and clothing donations.

The Premier and Deputy Premier Lara Giddings also visited the refurbished Wood Design Centre complimenting the local artisans for their skill and the quality of the products they make, as well as the contribution the centre makes to tourism and the local economy.

On Monday 16 February Cabinet met with the Huon Valley Council to discuss issues and ideas for the area.
