Cabinet travelled to Richmond on Sunday 15th March for one if its regular community forums.

While Richmond is closer to Hobart than many parts of regional Tasmania, Richmond and the surrounding Coal River Valley has an identity of its own, and it has issues unique to this area.

Discussions around water were high on the agenda and the Premier told residents that the Government is certainly not finished in terms of water solutions.

Preparatory work is now underway looking at a new scheme that will service the needs of the lower Jordan River Valley and link that scheme to the Coal River Valley and beyond to the land around Sorell.

Richmond residents welcomed the opportunity to voice their concerns and share their ideas on how to improve the region and of particular importance to residents were concerns about heavy vehicle traffic through Richmond’s historic township. The Premier and Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges agreed to look more closely at the issue and respond to the community in coming months.

On Monday 16 March, Cabinet met with the Clarence City Council and participated in community and business visits in the surrounding area.
